Reach Munnar By Air
Unfortunately, Munnar doesn’t have an airport of its own. The nearest airport, the Cochin International Airport, is 110 kilometres away by road. It is followed by the Madurai International Airport which is 140 kilometres by road from Munnar. Buses are available from these airports. Also, you may hire a cab.
Apart from these, Thiruvananthapuram Airport and Karippur Airport are the other two terminals in Kerala and are 302km and 287km away respectively.
Reach Munnar By Train
The nearest railway station is Aluva which is at 110 km from Munnar. Ernakulam is 130 km and Madurai is 135 km away. Angamali Railway Station is another nearest railhead to reach Munnar.
But there is no rail route to Munnar. The visitors can avail bus services from these railway stations or can hire personal taxi or cabs.
Reach Munnar By Road
State-run or private buses plying from various towns in Kerala and Tamil Nadu are the best possible ways to get to Munnar by road at a cheap price. The Kerala State Transport Corporation (K.S.R.T.C) connects almost all major cities to Munnar via road.
Munnar From Kochi: National Highway 49(NH 49) connects Munnar to Kochi. It takes around 3.5 hrs of travelling to reach Munnar from Kochi covering two districts of Kerala namely Idukki and Ernakulam. As you enter Idukki borders crossing the Neriyamangalam Bridge entire nature gives you a warm welcome with nature’s serenity. Major towns on the way are Aluva, Perumbavoor, Kothamangalam and Adimali. Buses are available from Kochi with a gap of not more than 30 minutes.
Munnar From Aluva: Aluva is at distance of 110km from Munnar and the nearest Railway station is at Aluva. Taxies are available at the entrance of railway station. And also the Kerala RTC bus stand is at few yards from the Railway station.
Munnar From Kodaikanal: Kodaikanal is yet another famous tourist destination of South India. It is at a distance of 170km from Munnar. The way from Kodaikanal to Munnar is Kodaikanal – Perumal Malai – Mayiladum Parai – Mooliyaru – Oothu – Falls View – Ganguvarpetty – Ghat Road – Periya Kulam -Theni- Bodi – Bodimettu – Devikulam – Munnar. The way ensures you a worth memorable journey experience.
Munnar From Coimbatore: Munnar is about 160 km from Coimbatore and 120 km from Pollachi. Coimbatore – Pollachi – Udumalpet – Chinnar – Marayoor – Munnar route is the most scenic route and though it will take bit longer, it is generally considered worth the extra time spent.
